Every child on this planet deserves a teddy bear to hug and to hold when the world gets too painful, lonely or sad. They need their teddy bears to watch over them when the dark is too spooky, they need a best friend in their lives or their lives may become unstable. For this purpose there are are many charitable organizations that are working toward the mutual goal and that is to put a bear into the arms of a deserving child.

One of the largest producers of teddy bears, The Vermont Teddy Bear Company started the program (Little Hero & Big Hero programs) in September of 2002 with sole purpose to give children across the country a teddy bear to hug when they need one the most. More than 11 million children are transported by emergency services each year. The Vermont teddy bear co. with the help of outside donations, provide specially designed, 13″ bears to emergency service professionals around the country free of charge. Anyone can participate in this great charity just by purchasing one specially made teddy. For every bear bought, The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory will donate two bears to an emergency service station in need. Along with the children these stuffed teddy bears are also given to lonely seniors because studies have shown that seniors need them as well.

One example of this charity donation was the donation of 600 teddy bears to Inland Hospital in Maine to be given to children who come in for tests, illness, trauma or hospital stay. The donation was made by Thorndike press, located just down the road from Inland Hospital. They were able to buy the bears with money earned from a silent auction, bake sales and other activities. They reached the decision to donate to the Hospital after one employees daughter who stayed in the hospital was given a teddy bear which made them realize what wonders a simple teddy bear gift can do for the little ones.

If You realize how important children and children happiness is, You may want to start a charitable teddy bear drive in your community. A drive which would help put a teddy bear into the arms of every child in need.

The first step is to recruit others, that are thoughtful and kind like You, to help you. After all, this a big undertaking for one person and You should know it before You start. You may also want to get area schools and local churches involved. Elementary school students make great recruits, as the entire class, if not the entire school, can work together to make money to purchase the teddy bears. Churches don’t mind getting involved in charity, especially when it is for children.

You can get together with Your friends and plan some money making activities. The ones which come to my mind are a bowl-a-thon, walk-a-thon, spaghetti dinner, pancake breakfast, bake sale, auction, rummage sale, or street carnival. These are all excellent ways to raise money for children and their new teddy bears. You and your group must decide before you begin, where you will distribute the bears and how many bears You want to buy.

While you are raising the money, it is very important that you look around to find the best place to purchase the teddy bears when the money is collected. It is a very rewarding experience to give a teddy bear to a child, any child. The look on their face when they see the soft, cuddly teddy, is worth ten times the effort it takes to get the bear. The first time you see a child grab the toy and hug it tight, will be one of the happiest of your life.
